King Tut Exhibit Coming to the de Young

Special Exhibit (June 27, 2009-March 28, 2010): Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs – More than 3,000 years after his reign, and 30 years after the original exhibition opened in San Francisco, Tutankhamun, ancient Egypt’s celebrated “boy king,” returns to the de Young Museum. Tutankhamun was one of the last kings of Egypt’s 18th Dynasty (1555-1305 BC) and ruled during a crucial, turmoil-filled period of Egyptian history. The boy king died under mysterious circumstances at the age of 18 or 19, in the ninth year of his reign (1322 BC). Tutankhamun’s tomb in the Valley of the Kings was filled with magnificent treasures meant to ensure his divine immortality. Many objects belonging to the young king—exquisite personal items used in his daily life—were placed in it. This exhibit features 130 outstanding works from the tomb of Tutankhamun, as well as those of his royal predecessors, his family, and court officials. Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs includes many new and exciting elements not seen in previous versions of the exhibition. Fun at the Drive-In

If you are looking for a fun outing and an inexpensive way to see the latest movies, you have to go to the drive-in. This weekend, we met 3 other families and saw Night at the Museum 2 (mediocre IMHO but the kids loved it) at the Capitol 6 Drive-In located in San Jose. We are a family of 6 and our total admission was ONLY $17.50!!! Yep, it is only $6.75 per adult and $1 per child under 12. And the best part is, you can bring your own snacks!!

We've been regulars to the drive-in scene since we moved to the South Bay (thanks to our good friends who let us in on this family fun adventure). Our kids love grabbing their pillows, blankets, and favorite treats and cuddling up in the back of our SUV. It is a very fun and memorable way to see a show and even more fun to do with friends.

A few tips: If you plan on seeing a movie on an opening weekend, be sure to get there early (at least 45 minutes before show time) in order to get a prime center spot. Remember the movie does not start until it is dark. A portable radio is good to bring if you end up sitting outside of your car. It also helps avoid dead car batteries. And if you bring an "adult" beverage be sure to conceal it. Alcohol is not allowed. Lastly, you may find the occasional train (there is a track that runs behind the screens) and airplane noise a little distracting, but hey its cheap!
